Table Top All New Veneer

This table had been neglected for years. Everything was loose and there was only a hint of finish on it. It took a minute to realize that the top had originally been covered with veneer.

The table as it came to me. Pretty rough!

Some of the carved molding was missing. The front piece has new molding I carved to match the original.

The finished (refinished?) table with new walnut veneer.

It doesn’t look like it, but the skirt is walnut.

After cleaning up and staining.

A sequence of five pictures showing the progression of the top.

1. original condition

2. filled cracks

3. first layer of veneer and a little stain

4. final veneer, but the color’s not right

5. after final stain and finish

Veneer Repair

This is a family piece that was a long-overdue for repair. Over time, a small problem got worse and worse, until it eventually threatened to have the table moved to the garage - or worse.

The finished table.

Before starting. In some places, two layers of veneer need to be replaced.

New veneer in place. Some problems were filled with epoxy putty (small whitish areas). Everything needs to be colored to match.

After staining and faux finishing to match.

Veneer Seat Replacement

In addition to the rather obvious veneer damage, the underside of the damage needed to be reinforced.
