My name is Jim Kinsey and all my life I've enjoyed fixing things and especially working with wood. It started as a hobby, repairing whatever was broken, making furniture for my family, and the occasional project for a friend. Years ago I dabbled in making wooden toys and blocks, and I've always done my own home improvement projects. For as long as I can remember I've fixed things: furniture, toys, tools, kitchen cabinets, home projects, and more. I even tried to fix my friends’ Matchbox cars when I was in third grade! See the picture to the right. 20 years working as an engineer developed my problem-solving skills and, somewhat surprisingly, was excellent preparation for dealing with the challenges of repairing furniture. Every project is different and requires creativity and problem-solving along with a basic understanding of how things work.
Not counting my third grade attempt, my professional career started in 2014 when I took a class in furniture repair and restoration at the Marc Adams School of Woodworking in Franklin Indiana. It was an excellent course, and I've had the bug ever since. I currently split my time between furniture repair and teaching high school math part-time. Someday I’ll retire from teaching and do this fulltime.
My goal is to repair your furniture the right way.
